Thursday, February 16 Embracing the wilderness
A talk for Wincanton Positive Living, February 16, 7.30pm Wincanton Memorial Hall Have you ever felt different, out of place, born into the wrong family? Then you may hold a special place on the hinterland of our culture. This sense of isolation, common to those who have 8th house planets in astrology, leads to painful self destruction or a series of rebirths. Chiron, the wounded healer is emblematic: abandoned by both parents and reliant on the gods, his struggles to heal himself helped countless others but his own wound would never heal. Those who embody this archetype carry within a sense of exile and longing that drives them to seek wholeness within. Painful loneliness and a sense of not belonging are commonplace until we accept our difference and unique role in society.
Wednesday, February 22 Of Soul and Spirit – a 12-week personal and transpersonal development programme, Wednesdays 7-9.30pm, Vale Centre
This three-month course (with a one-week mid-term break) embraces both the personal and transpersonal aspects of life, beginning with group bonding we will build a safe container for the exploration and release of our deepest wounds. The early work will look at attachment and trauma, co-dependency, issues of anger, power and control, our addictive reactions to our woundedness. Moving from the lower chakras we will move into the heart, the world of relationships with others and devotion, moving into higher consciousness, surrender and forgiveness. We will understand the necessity for both the soul’s descent and the spirit’s ascent. The programme involves movement and bodywork, meditation, understanding the impact of ancestors and our psychic inheritance, karma and past lives. Participants are encouraged to support one another during the course and keep a journal for the duration. Each student will work out their personal programme goals during week one. Fee: £240 made payable before the start date, early price of £215 if paid by January 22.
Monday, March 5 ‘Manifestation and the madness of me’
A talk at the Vale Centre, Stoke Trister, 7pm Manifestation, the flexed muscle of the spiritualised ego, belongs to an adolescent and primitive stage of life. The success of ‘The Secret’ and popularity of The Law of Attraction speaks directly to the little me that seeks to bolster itself. But who is this me? And does getting what you want work? Advertising media has cottoned on to the hypnotic power of ‘giving you what you want’, citing it as a seductive mantra. It understands that what ‘you’ want is never enough and that ‘you’ is forever hooked on more. At root is a fundamental misunderstanding and an ego out of touch with the unconscious world.
